Absolutely Not!

Okay...I was skimming Slashdot.org yesterday and I came across an article about some U.N./EU thing on the internet and stuff. I didn't get a chance to read it, but I figured that they were just whining again.

I was a bit off.

Apparently, they want the U.N. to take over the internet. As in, they would administer the root (primary) DNS servers. All I have to say about that is this:

TO HELL WITH THAT!!

Now, please note that I am referring to the actual place, which is a pit (metaphorically) of eternal suffering and stuff.

This jsut bring up a point I would like to make: The United States has been responsible for a number of things that have greatly benefited the world. I'll list three:

1. Panama Canal
2. GPS
3. The Internet

All three of these were invented by the US. All three greatly benefit the world. Does the world appreciate us for it? What do you think?

We handed over the Canal for some reason that I can't remember, but in all the history books in the other countries (France, Germany, so forth) do you think that they make a note that the US was so nice that we let anyone use it for virtually nothing? Sure there was as usage fee, but that for maintainance. Do you realize how much money these countries saved using our Canal?

And the GPS system. Virtually all the world's airplanes depend on it, but we made it. Do we get apprieciated for it?

And, of course, the internet. So the U.N. wants that too. Well, screw them. The U.N. doesn't need it. We made it, we own it. And if the rest of the world doesn't like it, they can do without until they make their own.

Actually, GPS is not a standard navagation tool in aviation yet. It is a new tool that is now becoming a standard feature in most 2005 model airplanes being manufactured. But yes, it is ours and we can and do charge for its use.

I think that enough people have reason for not wanting the UN to control the internet that it probibly won't happen. But hey, what do I know?

It is not just a matter of taking over the Internet naming, it goes even further. By the UN taking over they would totally cut off the US from any control or use of the Internet to the pit of even limiting what is already in use. They are using the claim that less fortunate countries need an opportunity, but in fact it would be a way that the UN could pull a Jesse Jackson and blackmale the country and business to get what they want. The kicker is that they are not even going to do it at the UN, but in some country in Africa where they hold someyearly non-descript panel meeting.

Can you say Food for Oil program....The UN is nothing more than a Global Mafia...The Pigs in Orwell's Animal Farm...but I digress...

Oh, the Panama Canal was originally a botched French project. Their idea was just to dig a really big ditch from one coast to the other but had serious problems. I still vote that we evict the UN and then just to piss off all of the communists/socialists in the world, give the UN complex to the entity that pays the most taxes in the US as a special "thank you" gift.
